Why You Should NOT use Curseforge

  • Curses' parent company is Twitch, whose parent company is amazon. Look here for why that matters.
  • Curse claims to take a whopping 30% of ad-revenue from modders, this is a pretty tall cost considering the few services other than plain hosting that Curse provides, in reality, that 30 percent could even be higher as "There is a certain Popularity threshold your project must reach in order to start generating points. That threshold is internal and you cannot view where your project is on the ranking" (Curseforge, 2024)
  • In addition to the previous, Curseforge does not have its "Reward Program" enabled by default, meaning that if a developer makes a popular mod and forgets to turn it on, they lose out on all that money.
  • The Curseforge launcher is very unintuitive. How can I have proof of something so subjective? people are CONSTANTLY messaging me to figure out how to do the simplest thing such as import or download a modpack
  • Curseforge launcher requires Overwolf
  • The Curseforge app is based off of Electron
  • Curseforge makes you wait 5 seconds to get a download, and direct download links are hard to get (makes it harder to use curl or wget to download from curse)
  • Curseforge has pretty laid back rules around cheats

If you just want to play some minecraft i highly recommend Prism Launcher https://prismlauncher.org/

If you need help with Curseforge please try using prism instead first
